Light Structures AS, the world leading supplier of fiber optic condition monitoring systems based on Fiber Bragg Grating technology (FBG), is pleased to announce that we have secured an agreement with Austal Australia, to deliver Hull Stress Monitoring Systems for six new Cape Class patrol boats (CCPBs) under construction for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) at Austal’s Henderson Shipyard in Western Australia. Austal’s Cape-class patrol boat is a 58-metre aluminium monohull vessel, designed to perform border protection and maritime security tasks, with a top speed of 26 knots and a range of up to 4,000 nautical miles. The six new vessels, to be constructed at Austal’s Henderson shipyard, will add to the Royal Australian Navy’s (RAN) existing fleet of two CCPB’s and will together with the eight CCPB’s operated by Australian Border Force enhance Australia’s border protection capabilities, supporting a wide range of security missions.
Delivery of the vessels from Austal to RAN are scheduled from September 2021 and then successively through to mid-2023. For Light Structures supplies the following are expected:
Systems for 2 vessels to be delivered in 2021. Systems for 4 vessels to be delivered in 2022.
The contract is Light Structures first contract with an Australian client and has a value of: NOK 4 728 000, - (excl. installation and commissioning support)
